Nine professionals from small and medium-sized Chilean companies, interested in developing pilot and scalable green hydrogen projects, successfully participated in the First Green Hydrogen Technology Tour in Germany, held from April 3rd to 12th. This initiative, funded by the Ministry of Energy and organized by the Energy Sustainability Agency in collaboration with AHK Chile, allowed participants to gain first-hand insight into the international green hydrogen ecosystem.
During the tour, selected participants had the opportunity to visit successful project facilities, technology providers, and other relevant organizations, in addition to participating in networking events with international experts. The main objective was to strengthen their technical knowledge and understanding of green hydrogen technologies through valuable knowledge transfer.
Jesús Agüero, Regional Energy Secretary for the Metropolitan Region, highlighted the trip’s importance, noting that “it’s very gratifying to hear that we are not that far behind in terms of talent and knowledge.” Luz Ubilla, Head of Sustainable Mobility and Green Hydrogen at the Energy Sustainability Agency, added that the goal of this collaboration with the Ministry of Energy was to “reach public, private, and academic stakeholders interested in accelerating this technology in the country.”
The itinerary included notable visits to companies such as Sypox, specializing in chemical reactors for renewable hydrogen, and Hydrogenious LOHC Technologies, a leader in hydrogen storage and transport. Participants also attended key events like the Intersolar fair and The Smarter E Europe, where innovations in solar energy, storage, electromobility, and hydrogen were showcased. The tour concluded with a visit to Siemens in Wunsiedel, a “green city” serving as a model for its transition to a 100% renewable energy system and its 8.75 MW green hydrogen plant, which produces up to 1,350 tons of green hydrogen annually.
This trip has provided attendees with real-world experiences and new tools to advance green hydrogen projects in Chile, solidifying the expansion of this sustainable industry.
