Santiago, November 4-8: The Director-General for International Cooperation of the European Union for Latin America and the Caribbean, Félix Fernández-Shaw, made an official visit to Chile between November 4th and 8th. During his stay, issues of paramount importance for bilateral cooperation were addressed, such as the Global Gateway investment initiative, the sustainable management of critical raw materials, and the deepening of digital cooperation.

A significant milestone of this visit was the signing of three new cooperation agreements, among which stands out the project aimed at analyzing the feasibility and establishing an international certification for green hydrogen projects in Latin America and the Caribbean. This ambitious project is implemented by the Chilean Agency for International Cooperation (AGCID) in close collaboration with the Latin American Energy Organization (OLADE).

The primary objective of this project is to develop a regional certification that guarantees the production of renewable hydrogen under the most stringent international standards. Through a comprehensive comparative analysis of the regulations in force in countries such as Chile, Argentina, Colombia, and Panama, a roadmap will be developed to enable the region to strengthen its capacities to produce and commercialize clean hydrogen, thus contributing tangibly to the objectives of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Furthermore, during the visit, the steering committee of the TEI RH2 project was held, which demonstrates the commitment of both regions to fostering cooperation in the areas of energy transition and climate change.

In summary, the results obtained during this official visit consolidate the solid bilateral relationship between the European Union and Chile, and open up promising prospects for increasingly close cooperation in strategic areas such as energy transition, digitalization, and sustainability.
